Edsel VIN Decoder
Ford launched Edsel for the 1958 model year and dropped it after the 1960 cars, having built only about 118,000 in all. The Ranger, Pacer, Corsair, Citation, Villager and Bermuda made up the line.
Can I decode a Edsel VIN from before 1981?
Yes. Edsel VINs from before 1981 are shorter than 17 characters and follow Edsel’s own layout, so a standard decoder cannot read them. Our classic decoder reads them from as early as 1958, character by character, against the factory chart for each year.
Decode a classic EdselHow do Edsel VINs work?
Edsels never carried a 17-character VIN. The 1958 and 1959 cars use a 10-character serial that starts with the engine letter, then the year digit and the assembly plant, and the 1960 cars use an 11-character serial that starts with the year digit. Every Edsel serial then runs on from 700001, which is how a real Edsel is told apart from a Ford.
