Studebaker VIN Decoder
Studebaker of South Bend, Indiana, began as a wagon builder and made cars from 1902 until 1966. It built the Champion, Commander, President and the Lark, and its last cars came from a plant in Hamilton, Ontario.
Can I decode a Studebaker VIN from before 1981?
Yes. Studebaker VINs from before 1981 are shorter than 17 characters and follow Studebaker’s own layout, so a standard decoder cannot read them. Our classic decoder reads them from as early as 1947, character by character, against the factory chart for each year.
Decode a classic StudebakerHow do Studebaker VINs work?
Studebaker serial numbers changed often, and each plant had its own block. We so far read the 1947 to 1949 Commander only, which has a seven-digit serial starting with 4. Los Angeles-built Commanders can look like 1948 Hudsons, so you may be asked to choose. Champions, trucks and later cars are not covered yet.
